Hi All!
It's been a crazy whirlwind week, I don't even remember...let's see...
- Finally, finally visited the MOMA - it was awesome, lots of good (and several bad) pieces. There was a particularly weird one which was a mountain of cotton threads lumped together, all over the museum floor interlaced with vases. Kinda weird. What really makes me wonder though is how the security guard (likely, probably, assigned randomly to each floor) feel guarding a pile of threads. and then there's the guards who lucked out and got Dali's floor or Picasso, or Monet. I hope they swap often. Oh! We also (Finally) had a celebrity sighting! We saw Alexis Bledel! She seemed larger in life, less bony.
- We went to Riverside Park and saw Much Ado About Nothing! MAAN is probably my faaaavorite play (so of course it wasn't as good, as always huh?) Aw but no, it was pretty fun all the same - Beatrice was a tad over the top. And Benedick might have spat at some point. And Hero was funny, Claudio was a loser (that was pretty normal, so he did a really good job!). It was fun to see a free play though, and they did it by a soldiers' monument at that park, with a little terrace, and so the whole play happened pretty much right next to the audience. Us eager beavers got there at 5.30pm(an hour earlier than the show) so we sat right up front.
- It was my roomie's birthday, (her 21st no less, now I did not realize this but being 21 opens alot more doors in the US, who woulda thunk it? tis true.) So she got her first drink and everything (legally, that is, the sneak would bat her eyelashes at the bartender and feign forgetting her driver's license. And of course, it worked!) and it was fun. I was ushered in and somehow not carded (I think it was Kris overshadowing me mostly!). Tried my first Shirley Temple. It was fun because she (Temple, that is) and I share the same birthday, you know. MmHmm. How many people can say that about themselves? Well!
- I can't wait - TORONTO THIS THURSDAY! Will be leaving at 7.30am in the morning, and arriving @ 5.30pm :) Am super-excited, and want to see you all (How possible this may be...is another question altogether)! Friday will be a day of interviews, pretty much back to back both downtown and someplace near Lawrence and...well it's at Lawrence...somewhere West...) Saturday's the Wedding, and I bus back to NY on Sunday 9am...I have to say though, I love long bus rides. Gives you license to daydream and doze off. Speaking as someone who can fall asleep (and have) pretty much anywhere, it's a breeze. Gonna be a fun weekend!
- my favorite part of New York is walking at night. It's a hard-to-get-lost-in grid system, so even I have managed to at one point or other, find myself or figure out where I'm supposed to be going. I walk everyday after work for an hour or so, just absorbing my surroundings. I don't think it's possible to be sick of New York, ever.
- I also love our outings to Central Park, we bring a blanket, good book, music, and just lie on the Sheep's meadow (very nice quiet corner of Central Park). And the Jackie Kennedy Onassis Reservoir is just beautiful :)
