Hello all,
Back by popular demand! (or maybe despite tepid response, I couldn't resist!)
Yay another update! I promise I will only highlight what was super exciting and fun. Ummm now that I started that...
- I'm getting published in the Toronto Star! This is the big leagues ladies and gentlemen (they NEVER print my stuff!) and I believe it was because I suggested (sort of accidentally but perhaps not really) an opt-out Canadian tax system. Patience and you will see...(unless they were just raising my hopes by short listing my letter, in which case...false alarm....)
- Wrapped up the CEDAW advocacy work - it was pretty interesting and you'll have to check out our blog for details:
http://wya-northamerica.blogspot.com (I think)
- Now I spend my days happily obsessing in Somerville and David Blankenhorn, Nigel Cameron, William Hurlburt and Maggie Gallagher. They are my new found friends. Papers I read in my spare time are now what I read full time. Sweet!
- We set up an interns page: http://wya.net/regions/internprofiles.html
Yes indeed, I live with these people. Or rather, they have to live with ME. Hmmm....
- We watched Breakfast at Tiffany's last night - despite being probably the tenth time I've seen it...it was as good as the first! I go there way too often, but really like she says, It's a magical place, even the outside permeates wonderfulness.
- Saw the Dark Knight (Yay Saturday Matinees!) - it was in a word, brilliant. I would recommend everyone get out the house right this instant and see it if you haven't succumbed to the hype yet. Just do it. You will be glad. It is just fantastic, and Christian Bale = Batman. There is no other.
- Ooh people graduating in the fall: read this article! http://publicaffairs.cua.edu/Releases/2007//07CommencementAddress.cfm
- Hmm we picnic alot in New York - went to the Monday Night free movie at Bryant Park (it was Arsenic and Old Lace, starring Cary Grant, directed by Frank Capra!) And over the weekend we packed a fruit and a pasta salad and staked out at Central Park. There were local musicians playing too in the background...
- Haven't made it to JD's ramen noodle place, but I hope to try it this weekend!
- Getting ready to come back to Toronto! I'll be back Aug 7 - 10 (leaving Sunday in the early AM though) - I will be at Newman Centre, so pop in and say hi! I can't wait to see my favourite U of T ivy covered building! Did you all know the chandelier inside the Centre is...wait for it...FROM TIFFANY'S? Yes indeed! It's the funny green one. Came with the house when the archdiocese bought it!
- 2/3 of my summer's gone! It's so sad. But luckily I have this update series to look back with once I've forgotten everything. There's always that.
- Am currently job hunting all over the place, so if anyone has leads, let me know! Alot of it is awful waiting, because all I can do is send out a resume with a cover letter (as I'm sure you're all familiar). Advice welcome. Comments as to how unemployable I am, less welcome ;) teheee...
Peace till next week ;)
