Dear Fab Folks,
It's been a wonderful week! Here come my bullet points:
- Lisa and Josh Canning visit! - They saw World Youth Alliance Int'l Headquarters and we had a fun catch-up session. Yay Toronto spirit during American Independence Extravaganza... We walked around Central Park, the theatre district, financial district (almost up the Chrysler building and the Empire state building, but alas...the prices have doubled! New York is definitely the most enterprising city ever...)
- Stroll through the entirety of Central Park - Shannon and I covered good ground in 3 hours, we ended up on the west side, and then went under a fancy resevoir (just don't ask us to repeat it, because we don't know how we got there!) and then on the East side! madness!
- Canada Day celebrations (and five minutes solemnity due to Morgantaler's craziness.) We made canadian themed cupcakes and had a big ol' party in the house, because there are at least 7 staff members who are guess what? CANADIAN! Very interesting.
- Then we everyday this week to the UN to observe and network at the convention for elimination of discrimination against women. They hate men there. Really they do. So it's this Convention with bills and guidelines, and several countries ( But not the US ) signed on, each session held either in NY or Geneva, and they are basically, angry women who hate men. It is crazy - the stuff they criticised countries on like when Yemen had men and women crisis centres, one of the committee members stood up and exclaimed that men did not need protection, rather punishment and rehabilitation. It doesn't ring upholding equality and human rights to me...although Yemen had some serious problems with tourist marriages (men coming into the country and marrying for that period) and child marriages (age of marriage for girls is 11), I thought the amount of time spent bickering over the phrasing of men's crisis centres was laughable in comparison.
- I spent the last weekend in Boston - it was awesome - so beautiful and fun! Hanging out with Sonal was a treat :) We also went to Boston University, MIT and Harvard...that was interesting. Sigh. they were huge compared to U of T. Talk about perspective.
But hey, it can't be that exciting, or else I would remember to include it today :)
