Dear Folks,
I'm writing hurriedly from the Portsmouth abbey school (we're camping with campers, it's kinda scary because the 16 yr old boys are way too full of energy. Wearing us all out by 10pm. Hum)
Last week:
- I went to a Good Morning America taping and saw Boyz II Men! WAHOOO! It was really fun and fantastically free! They sang MotownPhilly acappella, End of the Road, and a Motown Medley of sorts during which they tried really hard and had a whole dance routine. It was priceless.
- We went to Opera at the Park (In Brooklyn) and some couple (Angela Gheorghiu and tenor Roberto Alagna) who both happened to be awesome opera singers sang the entire night. they did more encores than the concert, which was pretty fun.
- I experimented and made eggless, butterless, milkless cupcakes with chocolate chips (which may have defeated the purpose of them being butterless and milkless, sigh)
- A friend, Justina McCaffrey - had a dress show which she invited World Youth alliance to attend and model her dresses. It was fun, and very enlightening to see uh, how the Others on the Upper East side live. Turns out they share similar problems and qualms.
- We drove through Providence and are currently in Rhode Island with a bunch of 16 yr old boys and some girls (the ratio though is about 12: 4). It's fun, we're talking alot, lots of lectures on human dignity, solidarity, freedom, heroism. They say the darndest things. Very profound bunch. The future looks bright!
- next week: CEDAW happens! Two weeks of monitoring at the UN. Very exciting. We Hope.
More to come!
