Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in response to the motion of banning prolife groups on the York University Campus. I believe that this debate of bioethical issues is vital to the discussions on social issues. The group you are questioning, the Society for Bioethical Awareness, while they are not ambivalent about the issues of Abortion and Euthanasia and Embryonic Stem Cell Research, they serve the University well by facilitating an authentic and critical examination of the issues at hand.

The intention of the Student Union and of prochoice clubs in creating "AntiChoice Awareness Kits" and prohibiting "Anti-Choice groups" is totalitarian and uneccessary in an educational institution intended to be a place that rewards rational and reasoned argument. There is no reason or logic to banning a particular group such as the Society of Bioethical Awareness, which promotes debate and questions the status quo.

If the Prochoice rhetoric is believeable, it can certainly undergo close and critical objections raised. This is an issue of free speech, and it is ludicrous to even suggest that a student run student sponsored club is banned on a campus forum. The York Federation of Students, should speak exactly for ALL students, not only those they agree with. The best way to chart progress is by looking at how an institution regards its opponents. Clearly, there is much to be done.
